In Scoil Choilm CNS we have two Special Needs Units; Sonas and Bród. In each unit there are 6 children. Sonas currently has 6 boys while Bród has 3 boys and 3 girls. All of the children have a diagnosis of Autism and a learning difficulty.

The children follow the mainstream national curriculum and the curriculum for children with learning difficulties. In the classroom the children participate in whole class learning, group learning and individual learning. The units incorporate lámh, PECS and visual schedules to enhance their language and communication. The children have the opportunity to develop other areas that would be important such as social skills, occupational therapy activities, sensory diet and multi-sensory activities.

Throughout the year the children have the opportunity to participate in a wonderful variety of other activities such as horse-riding, swimming, nature trails, gross motor activities (Access to bicycles, scooters, wiggle boards and go-kart during yard time).
