Our History

Scoil Choilm CNS was established in September 2007 due to a shortage of school places in the Porterstown area.

Our patron is Dublin & Dún Laoghaire Education and Training Board.  The rationale behind the establishment of the Community National Schools and this new form of patronage is to reflect the changing shape of Irish society.  This new model of school patronage ensures that each member of the school community is treated with dignity and respect and that all religious beliefs, values and cultures are recognised and celebrated.

Scoil Choilm Community National School will:

  • Be open to children of all faiths and none.
  • Be inter-denominational in character.
  • Operate through an ethos of inclusiveness and respect for all beliefs, both religious and non-religious.
  • Operate in accordance with the rules for primary schools as set out by the Department of Education and Skills.

In 2008 Scoil Choilm CNS moved to its permanent location on the Porterstown Road.  The school boasts beautiful school buildings and excellent facilities.  In September 2013 Phase two of Scoil Choilm CNS was completed along with two Special Needs Units, which are attached to each of the school buildings.  The school also boasts a state of the art GP Hall.
